The pour was a murky mahogany brown with a large (2-3 finger) tan creamy head that was mostly lasting, reducing finally to a thick film and a medium collar with some excellent sticky lacing.
The aroma was of a dark roasted malt, herbal and floral hops with notes of caramel, licorice, citrus (grapefruit), a very mild scent of chocolate and a mild alcohol tinge.
The taste was a little malty and bitter sweet with hints of licorice and caramel from the onset and finished with a nice bold hoppy taste and had notes of citrus, a bit of smoke and a slight notion of alcohol. The flavor hung around for a really nice long time with a pronounced hoppiness overshadowing everything else at the end.
Mouthfeel was medium in body and dry in texture with a solid medium carbonation.
Overall a brew that settled rather nicely on the taste buds, with a good mix of flavors which virtually hides most of the high ABV...
