Uinta "Cockeyed Cooper"
Uinta Brewing Company - Salt Lake City, Utah USA
Barleywine (ABV 11.1%) (IBU 65)

[Best served in a Snifter]

Rating: 4.2/5.0

Aroma: 8/10
Appearance: 4/5
Taste: 9/10
Palate: 4/5
Overall: 17/20

The pour was a clear dark mahogany brown with a large light beige pillowy head that was mostly lasting, eventually reducing to a large puddle with a large collar which created excellent sticky spotty lacing.

The aroma was quite robust of a dark bread malt and a sweet doughy yeast with notes of toffee, molasses, dark chocolate, dark fruit (plums and grapes), a bit of vanilla and a light oaked alcohol scent.

The taste was malty sweet with hints of vanilla, toffee and a bit of molasses from the onset, becoming slightly bitter sweet with a note of dark fruit, a touch of dark chocolate and a big alcohol finish. The flavor lingered for a good long duration after the swallow with a sweet alcohol presence left behind.

Mouthfeel was a bit beyond medium in body with a creamy, oily texture and an almost prickly carbonation.

Overall a full tasting brew with a nice woody bourbon finish...

Mark Uinta makes some really good beers! It is a pity they cannot serve their beers on tap at the brewery or anywhere else in Utah (they have a 4% ABV cap for draught beer) for that matter.
