St. Bernardus "Pater 6"
St. Bernard Brouwerij - Watou, Belgium
Abbey Dubbel (ABV 6.7%)

[Best served in a Trappist glass]

Rating: 3.8/5.0

Aroma: 7/10
Appearance: 4/5
Taste: 8/10
Palate: 4/5
Overall: 15/20

The pour was a dark murky chestnut brown with a slight reddish hue and an average sized (1-2 finger) light tan creamy head that lasted throughout with excellent sheeting of lacing which basically coated the glass.

The aroma was of a toasted biscuit malt and a sweaty Belgian yeast with notes of caramel, toffee, banana and some dark fruit (plums and overripe grapes).

The taste had a strong malty presence and a mild sweetness with a hint of banana and caramel early on, and then slowly transformed into a much yeastier taste with a large dose of dark fruit and a mild toffee presence towards the end. The flavor lasted a good amount of time after the swallow with a sweet yeasty flavor and a mild fruity ester that was left to linger on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was somewhere between light and medium in body with a creamy and a tad oily texture and a medium carbonation.

Overall an extremely tasty and very easy to drink Dubbel, and is a brew that hides all notion of somewhat moderate ABV...
