The pour was a deep dark pitch black with an average (1-2 finger) light brown foamy head that had great retention lasting pretty much throughout and produced excellent sheets of lacing that totally coated the glass.
The aroma was of a roasted sweet bread malt, pine and citrus hops and a bitter leathery yeast with notes of chocolate, coffee, citrus (grapefruit) and a touch of dark fruit (berries).
The taste started somewhat sweet and malty with notes of chocolate and coffee, and then had an influx of dark fruit with a bitter hoppy citrus peel ending. The flavor lingered for an extended period of time with a smooth, hoppy, chocolate bitterness left to settle on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was almost medium in body with a very dry texture and a rather soft carbonation.
Overall this brew was smooth, creamy and a tad hoppy with a great chocolate feel and a mild fruity sweetness, which hid the high ABV completely. All that and a great drinkability, yes I think I will have another...
