The pour was a murky orangey brown almost tea like in color with an average (1-2 finger) off white frothy head that was mostly diminishing, reducing to a scattered film with a small collar and fair runny lacing.
The aroma was very sweet and all about maple syrup with a sweet cookie malt and a doughy yeast along with notes of smoke, vanilla, butter and a hint of bacon.
The taste was lightly sweet and malty with a mild hint of maple syrup at first, but quickly became very smoky with a light bitter bacon ending. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow, and was mostly about the smoke with a touch of bacon coming in at the very end.
Mouthfeel was almost medium in body with a slightly dry, syrupy texture and a mild carbonation.
Overall this is the most unusual beer I have ever tasted to date. That being said I did enjoy it and it had a pleasant aftertaste, although a little less smoke would have been more to my liking. I do have to say though, it did remind me somewhat of a glazed doughnut…
