Odell "The Meddler"
Odell Brewing Company - Fort Collins, Colorado USA
Flanders Oud Bruin (ABV 8.9%)

[Suggested Glassware: Tulip Glass]

Rating: 4.2/5.0

Aroma: 8/10
Appearance: 4/5
Taste: 9/10
Palate: 4/5
Overall: 17/20

The pour was a plum brown with a large (2-3 finger) tan creamy head that had excellent retention, receding very slowly down to a puddled cap with a large collar and fantastic sheets of sticky lacing that engulfed the entire glass.

The aroma was sweetly tart of a bold Brett yeast and a mild sweet grain malt along with notes of chocolate, dark fruit (plums and black cherry), vanilla and a slight woody scent.

The taste was sweet and acidic with a nice malty feel and a note of dark fruit from the get go, maturing into a rather sour funky yeasty taste with a mild woody presence towards the end. The flavor lasted a decent duration proceeding the swallow, with a sour fruitiness and a slight funkiness left behind.

Mouthfeel was medium in body with a slightly dry texture and a mild carbonation.

Overall this was a really fantastic tasting sour brown, which had no flavor overpowering any other. Just a nice mix of fruit and funky tartness, which blended together so well that it created this exquisite tasting brew. I will be getting more of this one, I assure you...
