Thanks to Mike for sending me this bottle of Winter Warmer Barleywine Ale from Upland Brewing Company in Bloomington, Indiana. This Winter Warmer Barleywine Ale pours out a deep copperish, amber in color with just a little haze and is topped with a two finger, cream colored head that slowly reduces down to a film. Quite malty on the nose with good sweetness, dried dark fruit and a little funk. In the mouth, caramel/toffee sweetness, dark fruit, some bitterness and a little vinous. Medium-full bodied. Realtively low carbonation. Quite clean in the mouthfeel with just a little syrup. Long finish with good flavor and balance.
A nice barleywine with good balance and flavor. Recommended.
