The Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen from Brauerei Heller in Bamberg, Germany pours out cola brown with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, tightly knit, cream colored head that slowly reduces down. Mostly smoke on the nose with a meatiness and a touch of sweetness. In the mouth some definite smoked bacon action going on. Smokey throughout, slightly sweet and just a little hoppiness to clean things up a bit. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Fairly clean mouthfeel. Some lacing on the glass. The finish is long and slightly dry.
If you like smoked beers this beer is a must try. Lovely meaty, smoke flavor throughout. Kind of wish I had a ham sandwich topped with crispy bacon and a dollop of spicy mustard to enjoy with this brew. Highly recommended.
