The Pliny the Elder Double IPA from Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa, California pours out gold in color with good clarity and is topped with a large, tightly knit, white head that slowly dissipates down to a film. On the nose, aromas of grapefruit, orange rind and fresh pine along with a mild caramel sweetness. Hoppy from beginning to end with a little sweetness coming in the middle to balance things out. Pine, citrus rind and a little peppery spice produce a formidable hop bite. Moderate carbonation. Medium bodied. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Some oiliness on a pretty clean mouthfeel. The long finish is slightly dry and bitter.
Spot on for the style. A Double IPA to measure all others too. Highly recommended.
