The Hercules Double IPA from Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out burnt orange in color with a good deal of cloud and abundant floaties. The cream colored, foamy, head is easily two fingers in height and slowly reduces to a film. On the nose, aromas of pine, grapefruit rind with a decent amount of toffee. Toffee flavors at first in the mouth but this craft beer soon turns very bitter. Pine, citrus peel and slightly earthy taste. Medium bodied. Well carbonated. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Slight oil to the mouthfeel. The finish is long and very bitter.
A very good Double IPA with enough hops to give a punch (and probably has an even larger hop bite when fresh - this bottle is 3.5 months old) and enough malt backbone to give a semblance of balance. Highly recommended.
