The Pond Hopper Double Extra Pale Ale, a collaboration between Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado & Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell, Derbyshire, England, pours out a coppery bronze in color with just a little haze and is topped with a two finger, off-white, foamy head that slowly reduces to a thin film with a nice collar. On the nose, this is quite hoppy with strong pine and citrus rind aromas. Just a little muted sweetness in the aroma. Fruity and hoppy in the mouth. A lot more fruit than was in the nose. Tangerine, mango along with the pine and the citrus rind. As this warms, the sweetness, though subtle, shines a little more. Medium bodied. Well carbonated. Some lacing on the glass, but not much. Light oil in the mouthfeel. The finish is incredibly long and, while extremely hoppy and medium dry, the sweetness does push through right at the end.
An excellent beer that is even better after it has warmed a little. Probably peaking in flavor when served around 55F. Complex yet very drinkable. Highly recommended.
