Port Brewing Anniversary Ale

  • The Anniversary Ale, a Strong Pale Ale, from Port Brewing Company in San Marcos, California pours out an orangey gold in color with some cloud and is topped by a huge, foamy, off-white head that very slowly reduces down to a film. On the nose, strong pine and citrus rind aromas with just a whiff of caramel. The nose carries through to the mouth with this being bitter from the get go. A true hophead's craft beer. Flavors of citrus rind, pine, earth, mandarin orange and a hint of caramel. Medium bodied. Low side of moderate carbonation. Sticky lacing on the glass. Slight oil to the mouthfeel. A long finish with lingering bitterness that prickles the tongue and a little alcohol warmth.

A really good craft beer that a true hophead will appreciate and seek out. Solid bitterness from first sip right through the finish. Highly recommended.
