The Foreign Style Stout from Upslope Brewing Company in Boulder, Colorado pours out jet black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a one finger, chocolate brown head that quickly reduces down to a thin film. On the nose, aromas of heavily roast grains, dark chocolate and coffee. In the mouth, this is a very smooth brew. Even though heavily roasted their is no overly done bitter harshness. In fact, there is an almost creaminess to this stout. Dark chocolate and coffee are the prominent flavors. Low carbonation. Medium to full bodied. Some lacing on the glass. Slight cream to the mouthfeel. Long finish with good flavor.
An interesting stout. A boost in ABV and a higher roast on the malts give good flavor but without harshness. The only thing I'd have liked more is a bit of viscosity in the mouthfeel. Recommended.
