The Steel Toe Working Class Milk Stout, Gold Medal Winner for Sweet Stout at the 2012 World Beer Cup, from Ska Brewing Company in Durango, Colorado pours out jet black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a two finger, mocha colored, tightly knit head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a nice collar. On the nose, aromas of malted chocolate, coffee and a touch of molasses. In the mouth, this is creamy, flavorful and very balanced. Roast malt flavors with chocolate, coffee and a dose of cream with a light bitterness towards the end. Medium to full bodied. Low carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Creamy mouthfeel. The finish is long and creamy with great flavor.
I can see why this won gold at the World Beer Cup. Great flavor, wonderfully creamy and very balanced. Highly recommended.
