The Tide And Its Takers Triple With Brettanomyces from Anchorage Brewing Company in Anchorage, Alaska pours out golden in color with just a little haze and is topped with a two finger, densely knit, meringue-like, white head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a nice collar. On the nose, some funk from the brett with a good deal of tropical fruit sweetness, white grape and a little butter from the chardonnay barrels. In the mouth, the moderate barnyard like funk and the buttery smoothness from the barrels compete, harmoniously tantalizing the palate. Flavors of banana, pineapple, lemon, yeast and a little spice come through as well. Each sip is complex, yet seems slightly different, as your palate keeps digging through the new flavor sensations. The one persistent flavor is the lovely funk from the brett. Light side of medium bodied. Fine, Champagne like carbonation. Splotchy lacing on the glass. Light cream to the mouthfeel. The finish seems indeterminate as the layers of flavor linger and is quite dry.
A wonderfully complex craft beer that, while truly a sipper, makes you delve deeper with each sip to understand the diversity of all its layers. Definitely in the top 10 craft beers I have tried for 2012. Highly recommended.
