Fort George Sunrise OPA

  • A big thanks to Ken for sending me this can of Sunrise Oatmeal Pale Ale from Fort George Brewery & Public House in Astoria, Oregon. The Sunrise OPA pours out a cloudy, golden-orange in color and is topped with a large, foamy, white head that very slowly recedes to a film. On the nose, grapefruit, orange peel and spice. I can tell this is a hoppy pale ale (two thumbs up). In the mouth, the oatmeal gives this a mild viscosity and adds a slight creaminess to the mouthfeel. Flavors of bitter citrus hops, some grass and spice with just enough of a malt backbone to give a faint hint of sweetness and add balance. Light side of medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Beautiful lacing on the glass. The finish has good length with the hop bitterness outlasting all other flavors.

A different twist on a pale ale that works. Good flavor that is tilted towards a hophead. I'd buy this regularly. Recommended.
