The 2009 15th Anniversary Legend Limited Edition Olde Oaked Brown Ale from Tommyknocker Brewery & Pub in Idaho Springs, Colorado pours out a very dark brown with just a little light getting through on the edges and is topped with a light tan, dense head that slowly reduces down leaving a very thin film with a nice collar. On the nose, good bourbon and vanilla aromas from the barrel as well as some brown sugar and chocolate. In the mouth, the bourbon and vanilla carry through from the nose. Subtly sweet from the molasses with hints of chocolate and lightly roast grain. Moderate, fine carbonation. Medium bodied. Smooth with a light creaminess to the mouthfeel. Thin sheets of lacing on the glass. Bourbon and vanilla linger on a long finish.
A wonderful brown ale with all the characteristics you'd expect from an oak aged beer that has mellowed over time and come together. Incredibly smooth for 10.0% ABV. I let this warm up a good bit, probably to around 60F-65F, and it kept getting better. Recommended.
