Thanks to Mike for this bottle of Blackheart English Style IPA from Three Floyds Brewing Company in Munster, Indiana. Blackheart pours out copper in color with a little cold haze and is topped with a large, dense, off-white head that slowly reduces down to a film. On the nose, mild citrus hops with a lot of malt giving caramel sweetness. In the mouth, sweet caramel at first that manages to linger thought but there are a lot of hops in here with good citrus flavor and some peppery spice. A little vanilla from the oak, biscuit and graham cracker on the backend. Medium bodied. Low to moderate fine carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Slightly slick mouthfeel. The finish has good length and is slightly dry.
Right out of the fridge the aromas are muted as are the flavors which is to be expected. let this warm a little and Blackheart comes to life. The aroma becomes more intense, the flavors layer with complexity. A wonderful, American rendition of an English Style IPA. Highly recommended.
