The Highway 78 Scotch Ale, a Stone Collaborations 2011 craft beer from Green Flash, Pizza Port & Stone Brewing, pours out a deep ruby, almost brown, in color with just a little cloud and is topped with a one finger, tan colored, foamy head that reduces down completely after a few minutes. On the nose, molasses, brown sugar, bread, plum and a little earth. In the mouth, sweet with molasses and toffee flavors. Raisin bread, fig and a little peaty smoke. Medium bodied. Low carbonation. Little lacing on the glass. Sticky, almost syrupy mouthfeel. The finish is long and ripe with dark fruit flavors that finish with a touch of alcohol.
A slightly boozy, fruity Scotch ale with a lot of sweetness. If that is your thing, find a bottle before they're all gone. This is a one time brew. Recommended.
