Great Divide Wolfgang Doppelbock Lager

  • The Wolfgang Doppelbock Lager from Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out a deep ruby red in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, foamy, tan colored head that slowly reduces down to a film with a quarter inch collar. On the nose, molasses, pumpernickel bread, raisin and a little funk. In the mouth, toffee and rich malts from beginning to end with some dark fruit. Medium bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Thick, almost solid, sheets of lacing on the glass. Sticky, slightly chewy mouthfeel. The finish is long and toffee dominates right to the end.

A meal in a glass indeed. Wonderful malt driven flavors tantalize the palate from first sip to last. Nice toffees sweetness but not overly sweet. The 8.0% ABV is well hidden. A treat to drink. Highly recommended.
