Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale

  • The Claymore Wee Heavy Scotch Ale from Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out dark, cola brown in color with some light getting though on the edges revealing ruby hues and is topped with a bubbly, two finger, tan head that slowly reduces all the way down. On the nose, aromas of deeply roast grain, chocolate, molasses and a little smokey peat. In the mouth, this is a very rich craft beer. Tons of flavor. Layers of chocolate, molasses, roast grain, earth and some nut flavors. Full side of medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Thick, slightly chewy mouthfeel. The finish is long and packed with flavor.

This really hit the spot for me. I love a good Scotch ale and this has everything I look for. Good, lingering, balanced flavor with just enough booze to be mildly warm. Top notch. Highly recommended.
