The Wild Raspberry Ale from Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out a clear, ruby red in color and is topped with a one finger, off-white head that reduces down to a very thin film quite quickly. On the nose, fresh raspberry, wild raspberry & raspberry (in other words - a lot of raspberry) with a touch of sweetness. In the mouth, this is not as sweet as the nose but the raspberry flavor is predominant. After a few sips this tastes like it is slightly astringent. A little bit of hops but not too much. Light bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Some lacing on the glass. Clean mouthfeel. Dry on a decent length finish.
For a fruit beer this is quite good. For a raspberry ale it is spot on with just enough raspberries to give good flavor but not too many that it is overdone. Very refreshing for a hot day. Great Summer beer. Recommended.
