The Rendezvous Biere de Garde French Style Ale from Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin pours out amber in color with a little cloud and is topped with a two finger, light cream colored head that reduces all the way down. On the nose, big malts, lots of caramel, good ripe fruit aromas (apple, raisin) and a touch of earth. In the mouth, very sweet at first with caramel and ripe fruit flavors that do become cleaned up by the hops but not to the point where they go away. Slightly biscuity with a little grape and some tart, peppery pear. Medium bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Little lacing on the glass. Slight syrup to the mouthfeel. The finish is quite long and although malt driven it is on the dry side.
A very interesting beer. Malt heavy beers are not my favorite but i like this. Definitely a sipper for me but the flavors are complex and intriguing. If you like a substantial beer with a heavy dose of malt you will really like this. Recommended.
