The Union Jack IPA from Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles, California pours out a clear, brassy copper in color and is topped with a two finger off-white head that slowly reduces down to a film. On the nose, aromas of pine, toffee and grapefruit rind. In the mouth, nice hop bitterness with good oil and a solid , sweet malt backbone giving balance. Flavors of toffee, pine, grapefruit and citrus rind. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Sticky, oily mouthfeel. Splotches of lacing on the glass. Good length finish that has a lovely bitterness and a little spice all the way to the end.
A rock solid IPA. I'd expect nothing else from Firestone Walker. Hoppy enough with good bitterness but well balanced providing excellent drinkability. Recommended.
