The IBA India-Style Black Ale from Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin pours out dark mahogany brown in color with just a little light getting through on the edges showing off ruby hues and is topped with a large, tan, foamy head that very slowly reduces down to a thick film with a quarter inch collar. On the nose, roasted grain, coffee, pine hops and faint caramel. In the mouth, robust roast flavors with a dollop of hops. Flavors of roasted grain, coffee, chocolate, pine hops and a hint of molasses sweetness. Full side of medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Fairly clean mouthfeel. The finish is long and the hop bitterness, though on the milder side, persists.
A good brew with lovely roast dark flavors and a touch of sweetness to go with the moderate hop bitterness. I'd say this falls just shy of a Black IPA or Cascadian Dark Ale in the hops department but does not come up short on flavor. Recommended.
