Widmer Brother Brothers Reserve Lemongrass Wheat Ale

  • The Brothers' Reserve Limited Release #5 Fall 2011 Lemongrass Wheat Ale from Widmer Brothers Brewing Company in Portland, Oregon pours out a slightly hazy, golden orange in color and is topped with a finely bubbled, one finger, snow white head that slowly reduces all the way down. On the nose, aromas of sweet grapes, lemongrass, orange and a little booze. In the mouth, very vinous like. You can really taste the sweet muscat grapes along with a good dose of lemongrass and a very mild earthy, funkiness. On the sweeter side with wonderful ripe fruit flavor. Medium bodied. Light, fine carbonation. Slight syrup to the mouthfeel. No lacing on the glass. The finish is very long, sweet with tons of fruit flavor and a little funk.

A very different wheat ale but a very good craft beer. Love the vinous nature of this brew and the layers of flavor. About the only thing that would have made it better, for me, is a little less sweetness and some more dryness. Other than that, I really liked this and it is holding on strongly after 10+ months from being bottled. Recommended.
