The Double DBA Barrel-Aged Imperial Special Bitter from Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles, California was first brewed as a component to the blend that made up Firestone Walker's 10th Anniversary Ale in 2006. This is the first time it has been released in bottles as its own craft beer.
Double DBA pours out a deep copper-ruby in color with a little sediment and is topped with a tightly knit, off-white, two finger head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a collar. On the nose, vibrant aromas of vanilla and bourbon with some fruit, toffee and a touch of alcohol warmth. In the mouth, wonderful flavors with good balance making every aspect shine. Lucious, rich bourbon flavor accented with vanilla, toffee and a little spice. Medium bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Splotchy lacing on the glass. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. The finish is long and warms with the alcohol towards the end.
Another great beer from Firestone Walker. Barrel aged, yet not overly heavy as some barrel aged beers can be giving it more drinkability without sacrificing flavor. Massive in its own way, close to a bottle of wine in ABV. Drinkable in every other way. Highly recommended.
