The Hoopla Pale Ale from Boulder Beer Company in Boulder, Colorado is a collaboration brew with Kyle Hollingsworth, avid home brewer and keyboardist for String Cheese Incident. The beer is brewed as a festival beer and is light enough for a hot day but hoppy enough to up the flavor.
Hoopla Pale Ale pours out a brassy copper in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, off-white head that sticks around for a good while. On the nose, aromas of pine, flower, biscuit and some caramel. in the mouth, flavors of pine right of the bat. Toffee does come into play and there is a substantial malt backbone. Some earthiness, biscuit and spice. Medium bodied. Quite well carbonated. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Juicy mouthfeel that is pretty clean. The finish is fairly long and quite dry with the bitterness holding out the longest.
For a Summer/Festival craft beer this is nice and hoppy without being overly heavy. Perfect for when you are out on a hot day. This would be a good beer, now that it is being canned, to take fishing or floating down the river. Recommended.
