The Imperial IPA from Green Flash Brewing Company in San Diego, California pours out a brassy-orange in color with some cloud and is topped with a large, off-white, foamy head that has some serious staying power. On the nose, lovely bitter hop aromas; dank, vegetal, tangerine rind, lemon, flower and spice. In the mouth, bitter from beginning to end with a solid malt backbone that while does add a touch of sweetness is just there to prop up the hops. Flavors of grass, pine, citrus rind, pepper, a little bread and faint caramel. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Cream and oil in the mouthfeel. Beautiful, thick sheets of lacing on the glass. The finish is long, slightly dry, bitter and spicy.
A classic from the West Coast that is a true West Coast Imperial IPA. Hops, hops and more hops. Good flavor, exquisitely bitter and well crafted. A hopheads dream beer. Highly recommended.
