The Manic IPA Series Prometheus IPA from Elysian Brewing Company in Seattle, Washington pours out a cloudy, slightly burnt orange in color and is topped with an evenly bubbled, white, two finger head that gradually reduces down to a film. On the nose, tangerine, orange, lemon, grass, pine and caramel sweetness. In the mouth, very complex with layer upon layer of hop flavor that is matched with a solid malt backbone. Flavors of orange, pine, grass and citrus rind give a bitter punch that is matched almost stride for stride with caramel and sweet fruit. Medium bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Chewy mouthfeel. Dry on a long finish that has balance until the end where the bitter hop flavors push all the way through.
With nine hop additions and three dry hop additions alone this hoppy brew has great complexity. Lovely balance with enough hop bitterness to give it a true PNW feel. A really good IPA. Recommended.
