Deschutes Black Butte XXIV Imperial Porter

  • The Black Butte XXIV 24th Birthday Reserve Imperial Porter from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon pours out pitch black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a large, tan colored head that slowly recedes down to a film with a quarter inch collar. On the nose, aromas of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, molasses like sweetness and faint booze. In the mouth, rich and balanced with layers of flavor. Chocolate, roast grains, brown sugar, date, some citrus, vanilla and booze. Full bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Creamy, slightly viscous mouthfeel. Splotchy lacing on the glass. The finish is very long as the flavors slowly unwind.

An incredible porter with wonderful balance and exceptional flavor. The 11% ABV is present but well hidden and mellow. For such a big beer this very easy to drink. Best enjoyed just below room temperature and after July, 2013. Highly recommended.

22 ounce bottle, 11.0% ABV, Best after 07/23/13
