The 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer, a wheat beer-IPA hybrid, from Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri pours out a cloudy yellow-orange in color and is topped with a two finger, white head that slowly reduces down to a thin film. On the nose, mostly IPA hoppy aromas with a subtle wheat and grain. Aromas of grapefruit, orange rind, pine, bread and a touch of sweetness. In the mouth, this is like a light bodied IPA without a loss in hop flavor. Big citrus flavors with hints of pine, wheat, grass, some peppery spice, mild almost honey like sweetness and a touch of lemon near the end. Light bodied. Good carbonation. Some lacing on the glass. Clean, crisp mouthfeel. The finish is medium in length and dry with the citrus hops just outlasting the underlying mild sweetness.
The goal was a hybrid Wheat-IPA. The mission has been accomplished. Crisp, refreshing and hoppy without any loss of IPA hop flavor. Easy to drink and probably quite sessionable. Recommended.
