The 90 Shilling Ale from Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado pours out a deep coppery amber in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, sticky, off-white head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a quarter inch collar. On the nose, heavy on the malt with toasted nut aromas, toffee, earth, peat and a little dark fruit. in the mouth, tilted towards the malt side but there is a decent amount of hops cleaning things up but only slightly bitter. Flavors of toffee, toasted nuts, light citrus bitterness, vanilla and earth. Medium bodied. Fine carbonation. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Rich and luxurious in the mouth with some syrup. The finish is long and lingers on the sweet side until the sugars fade away and the hops shine with a nice citrus note.
A wonderful craft beer with good flavor and excellent drinkability. Some Scotch Ale characteristics with a handful of extra hops thrown in. Pleasing to the palate and an excellent, warming beer on this chilly evening. Recommended.
