The Bitch Creek Extra Special Brown ESB Ale from Grand Teton Brewing Company in Victor, Idaho pours out a cola brown in color with some light getting through giving off ruby hues and is topped with a two finger, tan head that slowly reduces down to a think film with a decent sized collar. On the nose, hoppy, roasted and malty. Aromas of pine, citrus rind, roasted malt, toffee, caramel and a little earth. In the mouth, layers of flavors melded together teasing the mouth. Flavors of pine, citrus, roasted grain, toffee and coffee with hints of dark chocolate and a distinct earthiness. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Slick, slightly chewy mouthfeel. The finish is long with a good balance of flavors that slowly peel away leaving a chocolatey toffee right at the end.
A good craft beer that while classified by a lot of sites as an ESB is more like a Hoppy Brown Ale. Well crafted with layers of flavor that coat the palate making you want another sip until you realize that, all too soon, your glass is empty. Recommended.
