The Local Series Hoperation Ivy #22 Wet Hop IPA from Ska Brewing Company in Durango, CO pours out a rich copper in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, off-white, dense, foamy head that slowly reduces down to a thick film with a decent sized collar. On the nose, beautiful fresh hop aromas dominate with a sweet toffee background. Aromas of pine, citrus rind, toffee and some resin. In the mouth, quite mellow and juicy with exceptional balance. Flavors of citrus rind, pine resin, toffee, some spice and a touch of tropical fruit. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Slightly slick mouthfeel that has a nice oil complexity. Thick sheets of sticky lacing on the glass. The finish is long, mouth watering with the persistent bitter hop flavors carrying through right to the end.
A very good wet hop IPA with fantastic fresh hop flavor. The bitterness is not overbearing but is persistent and unrelenting, yet refined. The malty toffee sweetness plays a secondary roll but is evident. Fresh/wet hop ales are my favorite and Hoperation Ivy #22 from Ska Brewing does not disappoint. Highly recommended.
