Deschutes Brewery Chasin' Freshies Fresh Hop IPA

  • The Chasin' Freshies Fresh Hop IPA from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon pours out a clear gold in color and is topped with a large, white, densely bubbled head that slowly reduces all the way down leaving a thin collar. On the nose, quite floral with a good amount of bread and fruit. Aromas of wild flower, pineapple, lemon, spice and sweet grain. In the mouth, very clean for an IPA with good balance. Flavors of pineapple, flower, spice, butter, some pine and a slight tropical fruit sweetness. Light bodied. Good carbonation. Splotchy lacing on the glass. The mouthfeel is very clean and quite crisp. The finish is long and dry with the bitterness of the fresh hops really showing right at the end with a dose of spice.

Not what I was expecting at all. I was expecting a big hoppy, fresh hop IPA but this is way more refined and sophisticated. Almost has some buttery Napa chardonnay characteristics to it along with some pilsner-esque aspects (if that makes sense at all). Elegant is how I would describe this IPA. If you go into this expecting a refined craft beer I think you'll really enjoy this (just don't expect a hop bomb). Recommended.
