The #9 Not Quite Pale Ale from Magic Hat Brewing Company in South Burlington, Vermont pours out a clear coppery-orange in color and is topped with a two, finger, foamy, white head that readily reduces down to thin film with a good sized collar. On the nose, quite fragrant but almost smells artificial. Aromas of apricot, orange, wildflower and a hint of caramel. In the mouth, much like the nose and on the dry side. Flavors of apricot, orange, flower, a little spice and a touch of caramel sweetness. Light bodied. Some lacing on the glass. Good carbonation. Clean, crisp mouthfeel. The finish is dry and on the shorter side with the apricot flavor lasting the longest.
The "Not Quite Pale Ale" is correct. The aroma and flavor seems artificial. To me, this does not taste how a well crafted beer should taste. It seems manipulated. Drinkable but not for me.
