The Ryeteous Rye IPA from Renegade Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out a slightly murky golden-orange in color and is topped with a three finger, egg shell colored, soapy head that slowly reduces down to a thick film with a decent sized collar. On the nose, juicy, hoppy and slightly dank. Aromas of grapefruit juice, citrus rind, some pine and a good dose of toffee. In the mouth, hoppy along with a good deal of malty sweetness. Flavors of orange juice, grapefruit, caramel, toffee, some earth, pine and a little biscuit. Medium bodied. Low carbonation. Slightly slick mouthfeel. Beautiful, thick sheets of lacing on the glass. The finish is juicy and medium in length with the hops outlasting the malt sweetness.
A good India Pale Ale that is well crafted and has good flavor but a little too sweet for me. I prefer a more assertive bitter hop punch in my IPAs with less malty sweetness. Nothing wrong with this craft beer though. I am sure it will please many an IPA drinker. Recommended.
