The Calumet Queen Kolsch Style Ale from Three Floyds Brewing in Munster, Indiana pours out a clear, pale gold in color and is topped with a fizzy, one finger, white head that reduces all the way down leaving a thin collar. On the nose, aromas of grain husk, lemon, wheat, noble hops and a touch of sweetness. In the mouth, crisp, smooth, light, a tad tart and refreshing. Flavors of honey, grain, lemon, grass and a little yeast. Light bodied. Effervescent carbonation. No lacing on the glass. Crisp, clean mouthfeel. A little dry on a medium length finish with the tart notes highlighting right to the end.
A very light beer with mellow flavor. Is Calumet Queen an extraordinary Kolsch? No, but it is quite good. Very drinkable and enjoyable. Best suited for a warm day when you want to kick back on the porch and have a craft beer. Recommended.
