The Beer Camp #15 Oatmeal Stout from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico, California pours out pitch black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a two finger, dense, mocha colored head that slowly reduces all the way down leaving just a quarter inch collar. On the nose, lovely roast grains with a touch of alcohol warmth, coffee, bittersweet chocolate and a toffee like molasses sweetness. In the mouth, rich and luxurious with layers of flavor. Flavors of roasted grain, oats, coffee, chocolate, molasses and a little hoppy bitterness. Full bodied. Some lacing on the glass. Low to moderate carbonation. Silky smooth, slightly viscous mouthfeel. The finish is long and the roast flavors, along with some bitterness, hang on right to the end.
A really good Oatmeal Stout with a ton of flavor that comes at you in layers revealing a bit more with each sip. Big, bold but also a very smooth drinker. The only alcohol I detected was on the nose, in the mouth the alcohol is well hidden. Recommended.
