The High Tide Fresh Hop IPA from Port Brewing Company in San Marcos, California pours out golden yellow in color with a little cold haze and is topped with a one finger, snow white, fizzy head that reduces down quite quickly to a thin film with a small collar. On the nose, fresh, oily hops dominate faint malt. Aromas of pine, citrus rind, resin, flower and just a hint of caramel. In the mouth, bitter from the beginning right through to the end. Flavors of citrus rind, pine, lemon, flower and a little bread. Medium bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Slight oil to the mouthfeel. The finish is long and dry with the hoppy, bitter flavors lingering for a good while.
A wonderful fresh hop IPA that is on the bitter side with the malts pushed back. I like that a lot. Port Brewing has captured the fresh hop flavor and made it shine. Recommended.
