Southern Tier Imperial Pumking Ale Review

  • The Imperial Pumking Ale from Southern Tier Brewing Company in Lakewood, New York pours out an orange-copper in color with perfect clarity and is topped with a two finger, evenly bubble, creamy white head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a small collar. On the nose, this smells just like a fresh baked pumpkin pie. Aromas of baked pumpkin, warm fall spices, brown sugar, a little pie shell and sugar cookie. In the mouth, just like the nose this tastes a lot like a liquid pumpkin pie with a little booze added. Flavors of baked pumpkin, allspice, nutmeg, vanilla, caramel, sugar cookie and some warmth from the alcohol. Medium bodied. Fine carbonation. Some lacing on the glass. A light syrup to the mouthfeel. The finish is long and slightly dry with the pumpkin and spice flavors hanging on right to the end.

I can see why this craft beer gets such rave reviews. If you are a fan of pumpkin pie think of this as the liquid version with alcohol added. Wonderful pumpkin flavors with a good dose of spice tantalize the palate from beginning to end. Highly recommended.
