Stone Brewing Co. Lukcy Basartd Ale Review

  • The Lukcy Basartd Ale (a blend of Arrogant Bastard Ale, Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale and Double Bastard Ale) from Stone Brewing Company in Escondido, California pours out a deep reddish brown in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, foamy, light tan head that slowly recedes down to a thick film with a good sized collar. On the nose, big hop aromas with citrus, pine and a good amount of toffee. In the mouth, malty at first then the hops take over. Flavors of toffee, earthy pine, citrus, grapefruit, peppery spice and a little oak. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Slick mouthfeel that has a good chew to it as well. The finish is long and while the malty sweetness tries to make it right to the end the bitter hoppiness takes over and rides the flavor wave until it is no more.

A big beer loaded with flavor. Enough malt to please the malt head and more than enough hops to appease the biggest of hop heads. Superbly crafted and a pleasure to drink. Highly recommended.
