Sierra Nevada Beer Camp #53 Floral IPA Review

  • The 2012 Beer Camp #53 Floral IPA from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico, California pours out a murky golden-orange in color, has quite a bit of floating sediment and is topped with a two finger, frothy, off-white head that slowly reduces down to a film with a quarter inch collar. On the nose, very fresh smelling with grass, herbs and flowers predominant. Some citrus and a little caramel hide in the background. In the mouth, good bitterness that is persistent. Flavors of grass, pine, citrus, some flower, a touch of honey like sweetness and a slight tang from the rose hips. Light to medium bodied. Vibrant carbonation. Thick sheets of sticky lacing in the glass. Just a little stickiness in the mouth. The finish is long and quite dry with a good hop bitterness all the way to the end.

A solid IPA. Not as much floral as I would have thought but I'm loving the nice sharp bitterness that keeps coming at you right to the end. Sierra Nevada definitely was not shy with the whole cone hops in this craft beer. Recommended.
