Avery Brewing Dictator Series The Czar Imperial Stout Review

  • The Dictator Series The Czar Imperial Stout from Avery Brewing Company in Boulder, Colorado pours out pitch black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a large, dense, mocha colored head that takes forever to reduce down to a thick film with a good sized collar. On the nose, cocoa, coffee, molasses, deeply roasted grain and some dark fruit. In the mouth, rich and full bodied with coating flavors. Flavors of roast grain, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, raisin with molasses and licorice on the back end. Full bodied. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Fine carbonation. Good amount of weight in the mouthfeel that is viscous and chewy. The finish is very long with the coffee, booze and licorice lasting the longest.

A heavy weight of an imperial stout with excellent flavor. Chewy in the mouth as the roast flavors mingle with the coffee and dark fruit creating a palate pleasing craft brew perfect for a cold night in front of the fireplace. Avery spared no expense in making this craft beer and it shows. Highly recommended.
