The Walker's Reserve Porter from Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles, California pours out a very dark brown in color with a little light getting through on the edges showing off mahogany hues and is topped with a two finger, tan colored head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a good sized collar. On the nose, roast malt, chocolate, coffee, earth and a little burnt brown sugar. In the mouth, silky smooth and slightly creamy. Flavors of roast grain, mild nuttiness, toffee, light smoke, coffee, some char, bittersweet chocolate, a little bitter spiciness and faint licorice. Low to medium carbonation. Full side of medium bodied. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Velvety, creamy mouthfeel. The long finish is medium dry with the char of the roast grains lasting right to the end.
An excellent porter with a complex flavor profile that comes together in harmony. Very easy to drink and very satisfying with a good QPR. If you're looking for a solid porter to drink this one hits on all marks. Recommended.
