Tommyknocker Brewery Cocoa Porter Review

  • The Cocoa Porter Seasonal Ale from Tommyknocker Brewery & Pub in Idaho Springs, Colorado pours out pitch black with no light getting through and is topped with a two finger khaki colored head that slowly reduces all the way down to a paper thin film with a nice sized collar. On the nose, the cocoa is really coming through with a good out of dark toffee sweetness, peat, roast grain, a little cream and a bit of spice. In the mouth, very smooth with nice balance all around. Flavors of cocoa, dark chocolate, light toffee sweetness, a little spice, honey, smoke and a hint of coffee. Medium bodied. Low to moderate, fine carbonation. Thin sheets of lacing on the glass. Some weight to the mouthfeel that is also slightly creamy. The finish is fairly long and somewhat dry with the chocolate flavors lasting almost to the end where a little hoppy bitterness takes over.

A good Porter that would make a great session brew on the cooler days and cold nights. Good flavor that delivers what is expected. Well made. Recommended.
