Flying Dog Brewery Wildeman Farmhouse IPA Review

  • The Wildeman Farmhouse IPA from Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Maryland pours out a golden-orange in color with some cloud and is topped with an enormous, fluffy, snow white head that slowly reduces down to look like a thick film with meringue like consistency and a large collar. On the nose, smells like a farmhouse ale should. Aromas of spice, banana, Belgian yeast with just a touch of sweetness. In the mouth, very prominent spice and funkiness. Flavors of coriander, yeast, citrus rind, pepper, earthy funk and a little grass. Light to medium bodied. Well carbonated. Light creaminess in the mouthfeel. Thick, almost solid, sheets of lacing on the glass. The finish is long with the peppery spice outlasting all other flavors.

A very, very Belgian IPA with the emphasis on the farmhouse characteristics and just a mild grassy hoppiness. Very drinkable and refreshing. A solid craft beer that is packed with flavor. Recommended.
