Elevation Beer Downpour Imperial Red Ale

  • The Black Diamond Series Downpour Imperial Red Ale From Elevation Beer Company in Poncha Springs, Colorado pours out a deep, amber-red in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger plus, light tan head that is tightly knit and slowly reduces down to a thin film. The nose is very hoppy with aromas of woody pine, flower, tangerine and a little toffee. In the mouth, the pine bitterness is dominant along with a good amount of citrus, mango, grass and flower but there is also a solid malt backbone that comes across with a decent toffee sweetness and some brown sugar flavor. Medium bodied. Lovely sheets of lacing on the glass. Fine carbonation. The mouthfeel has some weight to it and is quite sticky. The medium dry finish is long with the pine and citrus flavors hanging on the longest.

A very big, hoppy and flavorful imperial red ale. While the hoppiness is solid it is not overbearing; there is enough malt to add balance. The flavor comes in layer after layer revealing a bit more depth with each sip. A sure palate pleaser, if you like your red ales to have a potent dose of hops. I really liked this red ale. One of the best I've tried. Highly recommended.
