The Arrogant Bastard Ale from Stone Brewing Company in Escondido, California pours out a dark coppery-amber in color with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, densely knit, khaki colored head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a good sized collar. On the nose, big hops dominate with an underlying sweetness. Aromas of pine, citrus rind, toffee and caramel. In the mouth, arrogantly hoppy but there is a heavy dose of malt to give a semblance of balance to the hoppy bitterness. Flavors of pine, citrus rind, a faint touch of smoked and roast grain followed by light toffee and treacle flavors. Medium bodied. Well carbonated. Slightly slick mouthfeel. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. The medium dry finish is long with the hop bitterness lasting the whole way through.
Always a wonderful craft beer that is expertly made. The hops are bold and do not let you forget that fact. Tons of flavor in layers always making your palate dance in anticipation. One of the top tier craft brews that are readily available. Highly recommended.
